This is a question many homeowners and renters should be asking themselves. If you’re not, now’s the time to start.

Would you want to breathe in air that is unfiltered? Possible chemicals? Lots of dust?

No. Most likely not.

It’s similar to people who want filtered water over those who don’t. Not everyone uses filtered water. But the benefits of drinking it far outweigh any negative. The same goes for air duct cleaning. Not everyone does it, but why wouldn’t you? Clean air is something everyone would prefer to breathe in. Especially in our own homes. There’s enough smog and air polluters outside. Don’t add your home to that list!

Whether it’s a filter or duct of any kind, it can get clogged. Your car, air conditioner, dryer, and home system are some prime examples. Once they get dirty or clogged, it’s time to clean them. Here at Eco Home Heroes we want to help you make sure they get cleaned regularly to prevent any negative occurrences.

Why should I get my air ducts cleaned?

  1. Air Quality – Once the air ducts become dirty enough, dust and debris can then begin to be blown through your air vents into your home.
  1. Efficiency – If your air ducts are dirty, your HVAC system is not working as well as it could. This could lead to spikes in your energy bill due to lack of efficiency. It could also put extra stress on your HVAC system that may lead to major repairs.

  2. Health Issues – Many people experience health issues when exposed to prolonged periods of poor air quality. It can be something as little as allergic reactions to dust or more extreme such as skin rashes, headaches and a general unwell feeling.

When should I get my air ducts cleaned?

The answer is routinely and largely depends on your lifestyle at home (household size, pets, cooking, smoking, etc.) Most home owners should expect to have their air ducts cleaned every 6-24 months. However, there are instances in which you should immediately schedule to get your air ducts cleaned:

You move into a new home.

When you move into a new home, the air ducts are filled with dirt and debris from the previous tenants lifestyle and level of hygiene. Having your air ducts cleaned as well as installing new air filters starts you off with fresh, clean air inside your home.

You notice your air filters are getting dirty faster than usual.

Your air vents and filters can get dirty, but if your air ducts are too dirty your air system keeps recycling dirt and dust through your air filters causing them to become dirty faster then usual.

A large spike in the energy bill.

If you notice your energy bill seems higher than usual or it higher than it should be, the air ducts could be the cause. Your system needs to work twice as hard when the ducts are dirty.

You can see rodents or insect infestation in the ducts.

This can mean that rodents or insects have decided to nest inside the ducts. Between droppings and shells, it can cause an awful smell. As well as diseases circulating in the home.

Musty smell or mold growth occurs.

Ducts and many other parts of your HVAC system can develop mold. Although dust is not very harmful, mold should never be breathed in. If you notice an odd smell, start having medical issues, or see any mold, you’ll want to have your air ducts cleaned right away.

You notice air flow isn’t consistent or hear strange noises in some rooms.

If you have a good and clean HVAC system, air flow to each room should be constant and consistent. It also shouldn’t be making any unusual noises. If either of these is occurring, it could be a solid sign to clean out your air ducts.

With all the factors involving the condition of your HVAC system, air duct cleaning is definitely an important aspect of maintaining a clean and healthy home. In a place like Las Vegas where our air conditioner is constantly running for extended periods of time, it makes the necessity of having a optimal HVAC system even more crucial.
